The term Renaissance is French for "rebirth." It was a renewed interest in the legacy of ancient Greece and Rome and their classical literature, sciences, arts and civil societies and brought the humanities into modern history, including history, philosophy, and literature.
The Renaissance brought about the idea of humanism, which is the idea that shifts the focus from the spiritual life and the divine from the Middle Ages to the human life and human form. The idea of individualism was also introduced, which is the belief in the importance of the individual.
The Renaissance was part of, and arguably the spark of, an ongoing process that changed the shape of European culture over many centuries.
